Proposal

My music magazine will have the genre of Indie and mod revival, my target audience will from sixteen to twenty year olds, also the target audience will obviously enjoy the genre I have chosen to make my music magazine on. The house style of my magazine is going to be a very sleek, and stylish look, the front cover will be very simple, the masthead will be in the top left of the front cover, I think the title of the magazine will be ‘The face’ I have chosen this for the title as it goes with the genre of the magazine, as part of the genre is mod revival.

I only want to use three to four main colours on my front cover, I was thinking of using, white, blue, red and black. I will have a image, of a mid-shot of somebody on the right of the magazine, which will give the magazine a informal balance. The language in my magazine will be very informal, and will be more straight to the point, and hopefully funny. The article feature will be a review of an upcoming band, and a review of there gig and maybe an interview with the band members, as they are friends of mine, I would like the layout of the two page spread, to be small images dotted around the page but I would like it to be mostly text, I would like the images to be of the band, outside in a urban area, and also a picture while they are doing a gig.
The images I would like, is just one in a gig, and the rest in urban streets, with one or two of the band members.

Double Page Spread Analysis

Front cover essay

I have chosen this magazine because it signifies everything a normal magazine would use, to target the audience, there are a lot of components to make the front cover at the end of production, and how it is made so attractive to the certain demographic.

I think the demographic for this magazine, is teenagers fourteen plus, that enjoy rock music, I think this because the magazine signifies this to me, by using the colours, the images and also the style of text. The main image is very powerful, and I think would bring the target in because, of the eye contact of the image which catches the targets eye, which is the main thing the front cover wants to do catch the audiences eye. The masthead is very bold with a black background and white text, so it stands out from all the other text, also the main image of the front cover hides some of the masthead, this gives the image a very good field of depth. The selling line is directly in the Primary optical area, the colours around the selling line are very bright again to catch the audience’s attention, as it is a very bright yellow with a bold black font.
The main cover line of the image is in a white font, with a red outline to make it stand out; there are a lot of cover lines on the front cover of the magazine.
There is a clear Guttenberg diagram on the front cover with the selling line in the primary optical area then another cover line in the optical area, also there is the price and dateline in the optical area.
The Principal of thirds does not seem to apply to the image. The balance of the image is very informal there is no symmetry in the image but the image is balanced by the top half of the image being very bright , and the bottom half is quite dark, with a shadow, it is a vertical and radial balance.
The colours of the front cover, are all very bright they consist of black white and red and yellow, they are all colours that contrast with each other so they stand out a lot more, the font of the front cover is identical to the rest, a very average font, but is very bold, and in some places very big.

The Front cover of this kerrang magazine is very bold, I think if I walked past it it would defiantly catch my eye, it is not in my demographic but I can see why people would buy this magazine.
